Start a Beach Tennis League in YOUR TOWN Today

Start a Beach Tennis League in YOUR TOWN Today
In its latest grassroots campaign to bring beach tennis to the masses, Beach Tennis USA® has made the game available to local sports league directors and promoters through a new division of the company called "Team Beach Tennis–The Official Leagues of Beach Tennis USA". Team Beach Tennis (TBT) is currently accepting applications for charter league and league director membership. "We expect to have our first leagues up and running by Spring 2008," said TBT spokesperson Melissa Gibson. The group anticipates most of the league play will take place in beach communities, such as South Florida and Southern California, and other hot spots where beach tennis has already gained considerable traction. However, Gibson noted that the sport could also be played in a non-beach environment, on any regulation sand volleyball court, or even on turf. "Our goal is really just to get people to try this fabulous, new team sport, while keeping the league model profitable for new directors," added Gibson.

Beach tennis, which is played all over the world, and has gained enormous popularity in the U.S. since its professional debut in 2005, is played primarily by 'traditional' tennis players looking for a fun and challenging alternative. However, due to the game's simplicity and short learning curve, beach tennis can be played recreationally by anyone with even marginal racquet skills.

Team Beach Tennis leagues will feature co-ed teams, age 18 and over, and will be comprised of several divisions, including men's, women's and mixed doubles. The 2008 Team Beach Tennis season will culminate at the National Championships on Labor Day Weekend in Long Beach New York, where qualifying teams will have the opportunity to compete with teams from across the country.

Whitesell/Henderson triumph at Virginia Beach

Great time this weekend at Virginia Beach and congratulations to Chris Henderson and Phil Whitesell for taking home the trophy.

It looks as if the BTUSA elder statesmen have vaulted into the same high-rent district as Matteo and Alex. This will likely make for a very interesting, competitive weekend in Long Beach on Labor Day weekend. The intensity will be ratcheted up a notch, the stakes will be… Continue

Beach Tennis in South Beach (Miami Beach, FL)

I'm trying to promote the sport in South Beach. The person in charge of beach volleyball told me that there used to be quite some people playing on the beach tennis court, but they all flocked. By the time we started using the court, we were the only ones using it. After having contacted Beach tennis USA I will now become the contact person on their website for this area. Hopefully this will help in getting more people to play here. I also use craigslist and have found a player or two through… Continue

I agree that they should start to work on the unification of the sport. One racket, one set of rules, that's it! In my opinion the paddle should rule the sport. The game is a lot faster with the paddle and will attract greater athletes and in…
